Waterproof and water-repellent are not interchangeable claims. 12Shoes treats a hiking shoe as waterproof only when the current product record explicitly identifies it that way. Outdoor appearance alone does not prove waterproof construction or performance.
What waterproof should mean in a sourcing brief
A wholesale buyer requesting waterproof footwear should define the intended climate, customer use and required construction or test standard. The request may involve the upper, lining, membrane or seam construction, but no material, membrane brand, waterproof rating or laboratory result should be assumed unless it is documented for the specific product.
What water-repellent means
Water-repellent footwear is intended to resist limited moisture according to its declared product description. It should not automatically be marketed as suitable for prolonged wet conditions or full water protection. For example, a product described for everyday outdoor use and light rain should keep that narrower claim in wholesale materials.
Questions buyers should confirm
- Does the current product record say waterproof or water-repellent?
- What construction or treatment supports the declared function?
- Is a market-specific test or certificate required?
- What terrain, climate and customer use is expected?
- Which colours, sizes, carton pack and quantity are needed?
- Is the request for a current product or a new OEM/ODM project?
Ready-made and development routes
Current products are ordered by full carton after availability and specifications are confirmed. For OEM/ODM development, the buyer should provide the required performance target and any required test method before sampling. Feasibility, materials, sample requirements, quantity, pricing and timing are confirmed with the relevant manufacturing partner.
Avoid unsupported performance claims
12Shoes does not add unsupported Gore-Tex, Vibram, laboratory-test, durability or traction claims. Buyers should use the approved product specification and test evidence for their market rather than relying on a generic category label.
